When we first laid eyes on the latest Skoda Superb, it had a bit of a glow-up over the prior generations.

It still looks like the professional, understated car we all know and love, but it now has sharper lines and a more "expensive" feel, we thought, that really makes it stand out in the car park, as a result.

Our First Thoughts

When you first see the Superb, the main thing that strikes you is its size, well, it did us.

It looks long, low, and very planted on the road. As it is clear here that Skoda has moved away from rounded corners in favour of a "Crystalline" design, which is just a fancy way of saying it has sharp, clean edges that really do catch the light beautifully from all angles.

Bumper

The front bumper, for instance, is much more aggressive than before.

So much so that it features a wide, octagonal grille that sits between slim, squinting headlights.

Then, if you look closely at the lower part of the bumper, there are "air curtains" (small vents) that help the air flow around the front wheels to help you save fuel as they help your car to avoid fighting as much of the "drag" (air resistance), especially at motorway speeds.

Side Profile

Then, from the side, the Superb to us just looks incredibly elegant overall here.

There is a strong "Tornado line", for instance, that runs all the way from the front headlights to the rear tail lights, which makes the car look like it’s moving even when it’s parked, which is a nice design feature.

It’s sharp, vibrant, and houses all the vital functions of the car.

However, it is worth noting that because this system is essentially a high-powered computer, it occasionally takes a few seconds to "boot up" when you first start the engine.

When you first get in, the system is busy loading your personal "Škoda ID" settings, seat positions, and safety systems to help you get the best experience.

So while the screen wakes up, use those first few seconds to settle in and secure your seatbelt - and by the time you're ready to shift into gear, the system is usually fully responsive.

Škoda also regularly releases stability patches that continue to refine the boot-up speed and menu responsiveness, helping you to make sure that your car actually gets better with age, literally.

You will also be glad to hear that you can also enjoy every journey with electrically adjustable, heated, ventilated and massaging front seats as well.

We were rather impressed with the wide choice of colour options that you have available too, which really come to life with a quick selection through the infotainment display.

Overall, here you get interior lighting that runs along the dashboard, in the foot wells and in the front doors.

CANTON sound system

Created in collaboration with German audio experts CANTON, this set of 12 speakers and digital equaliser has been masterfully fine-tuned to amplify the listening experience inside the Octavia as well, giving you a very high-end music experience.

Legroom

This is the Superb’s "party piece", though.

There is more legroom in the back of a Superb than in many cars that cost three times as much.

Even with a tall driver in the front, a passenger in the back can literally cross their legs in comfort.

Materials

Skoda has also used many sustainable materials, and you will be glad to hear.

As here all the textiles are made from 100% recycled polyester.

If you then choose leather, it’s tanned using an eco-friendly process as well, involving coffee husks or olive oil wastewater instead of harsh chemicals to help to keep that eco-friendliness of the car alive.

Comfort Features

The Superb also features Tri-zone climate control, which we really love, so the driver, your front passenger, and your rear passengers can all set their own temperature to have the car how they like it, rather than being stuck with just 1 setting for everybody.

You also get "Acoustic glass" on some models as well, to keep the cabin whisper-quiet on the motorway.

Storage Features

You will never run out of space for your bits and bobs as well, which we really love.

For instance, there is a massive "Jumbo Box" under the front armrest, large door pockets that hold 1.5-litre bottles, and even dedicated smartphone pockets on the back of the front seats as well - all of which will come in more than handy on your daily drives.

Boot Capacity

The boot, though, WOW, it is just gargantuan.

The Hatchback offers 645 litres, while the Estate gives you a massive 690 litres.

If you then fold the seats down in the Estate, you also get nearly 2,000 litres of space - enough for a small mountain of flat-pack furniture for sure.

Technology

Then lastly for its interior, the Superb is just packed with tech, including a 10-inch Virtual Cockpit (digital dials) and an optional Head-up Display that projects your speed onto the glass in front of the driver as well, allowing you to keep your eyes on the road more when you want to check your key stats.

There are also five USB-C ports, including one by the rear-view mirror for a dash cam as well, meaning that you and your passengers will always remain charged and connected at all times, too.

As you can see, the Skoda Superb is a long car - there is no hiding its 4,912mm length.

While that size is the secret to its business-class legroom, we know it can feel like a bit of a squeeze when you are navigating tight city centres.

The Plug-in Hybrid (iV), Understanding the "Packaging Trade-off"

The Superb iV (Plug-in Hybrid) really is a game-changer in our view, for those looking to slash their fuel bills, by offering you a remarkable electric-only range of up to 84 miles.

However, to house the advanced 25.7kWh battery pack while maintaining that famous limo-like legroom, there is a slight adjustment to the boot floor here on this model.
