Range Rover Velar Grille

What’s New in the Latest Range Rover Velar?

The Land Rover Range Rover Velar comes with a subtle design refresh, which does a good job, to be fair, of keeping its signature stylish silhouette intact while refining a few exterior elements like slimmer LED lights and a reworked grille.

Inside as well, you also get a new larger touchscreen, which dominates the new centre console - and is supported by over-the-air updates and a new interface.

Then, under the bonnet, the updated mild-hybrid system makes the petrol and diesel engines a lot more efficient for you as well.

Top 10 Features

  • Very stylish, with a minimalist design with flush door handles
  • High-quality, luxury interior materials and finishes
  • Dual touchscreen infotainment system for easy control
  • Comfortable ride with adaptive optional air suspension
  • All-wheel drive for confident handling in all weather
  • Large boot for luggage and shopping trips
  • Advanced driver assistance and safety features
  • Panoramic sunroof brings in loads of natural light
  • Quiet, refined drive even at higher speeds
  • Strong choice of petrol, diesel, and hybrid engines

Exterior Design and Styling

The Velar’s design is also unmistakably Range Rover – minimalist yet classy, all while its smooth lines and flush door handles scream pure style - it is just a car that you want to be seen in.

This is then supported well by its LED lighting, which gives it a futuristic appeal, while the optional panoramic sunroof adds to the car's airy cabin feel as well.

But, one thing you will notice is that every angle just looks polished, making this one of the best cars to admire - even while parked as well.

Stylish

The Range Rover Velar is also easily one of the most stylish SUVs on the road today.

It’s got that clean, modern look that really, really does turn heads.

The designers have also clearly focused on simplicity and style, making it look both sporty and luxurious at the same time by doing so, as every detail just feels well thought out and totally on-trend here.

Front

For instance, at the front, the Velar has a stylish and confident face.

The grille, for instance, is bold but not too flashy, with a neat mesh design and that iconic Range Rover badging taking centre stage.

This is then complemented further thanks to its slim LED headlights, which add a high-tech feel, all while the bumper blends in beautifully with the bodywork.

All in all, one of the things you will notice is how the front is smart, strong-looking, and has just the right touch of class.

Side Profile

The side view is where the Velar really shows off its shape.

For instance, it has a smooth, flowing line from front to back, giving it a sporty, coupe-like feel.

The flush-fitting door handles also sit neatly in the bodywork and pop out when needed, making it very modern and neat but great for improving your field efficiency as well.

In essence, everything feels streamlined and balanced, with no clutter in sight.

Roofline

The roofline of the Velar is also gently sloped, adding to its stylish and slightly sporty character.

For example, it flows gracefully towards the rear without making the cabin feel cramped in doing so.

This design then gives the car more of a floating roof effect, especially with the contrasting roof option - which really helps the Velar to stand out from the crowd by doing so.

For your roof, you can also pick from one of several colours, including, for instance:

  • Body-coloured roof (Standard)
  • Body-coloured fixed panoramic roof (Optional)
  • Body-coloured sliding panoramic roof (Optional)
  • Black contrast roof (Optional)
  • Black contrast fixed panoramic roof (Optional)
  • Black contrast sliding panoramic roof (Optional)

Rear

The back of the Velar is also just as tidy as the front, in our expert opinion.

For example, here you get slim, horizontal LED rear lights that stretch across the rear, which are then joined by a black trim that adds width and presence to the Velar here.

The bumper and tailgate also have a smooth finish with no unnecessary lines, and it is all very well put together - simple but striking, some would say.

Wheels

For your wheels, here the Velar comes with a lovely choice of alloy wheels, from 18 inches all the way up to 22 inches.

The designs are also modern and suit the car’s stylish look perfectly as well.

So, whether you go for a sporty style or something more refined, the wheels, in our view, really add to that premium feel without being too over-the-top.

For instance, here, you have a lot of options to choose from, including:

  • 18" Wheels

Brighter Lights, Safer Night-Time Driving

The Range Rover Velar also comes with LED lighting all around the vehicle, which is standard.

These lights are built to last the lifetime of the car and use less energy, which helps with your fuel efficiency as well here.

The light they produce is also closer to natural daylight, making night driving easier on your eyes.

Your rear fog lights also help to make sure your vehicle is seen in poor weather conditions as well.

Signature Lighting Features

Higher-spec headlights can then also include stylish Daytime Running Lights (DRL) and Animated Directional Indicators.

When you indicate at lower speeds as well (under 25mph), optional Static Cornering Lights brighten up the road or driveway you are turning into, giving you a clearer view of what is in front of you as a result.

Auto High Beam Assist (AHBA)

This optional feature can automatically switch between high and dipped beams when it detects oncoming headlights or taillights ahead of you - helping you avoid dazzling other drivers.

Matrix LED Headlights With Adaptive Driving Beam (ADB)

Optional Matrix LED headlights also offer you that extra visibility and safety as well.

Here, the ADB splits the high beam into narrow vertical strips that can then light up more of the road while casting a shadow around oncoming vehicles – so you do not dazzle other drivers but still get the excellent visibility that you need.

Adaptive Front Lighting System (AFS)

AFS then works alongside ADB to adjust the light beam depending on your driving environment – whether you are in town, on the motorway, in the countryside or dealing with bad weather.

Together, they provide the best lighting possible for any condition.

Towing Options

If you need this car to tow, then you will not be disappointed either, as you can also choose between two great towing options with the Range Rover Velar - both offering you a towing capacity of up to 2,500kg.

Furthermore, here, there is also a detachable tow bar that can be easily removed when not in use or an electrically deployable tow bar that neatly hides away in the rear bumper when you don’t need it, as well.

Both options are also perfect for towing trailers or using accessories like bike carriers from the Land Rover Gear range – adding even more flexibility to suit your lifestyle as well.

Interior Luxury and Comfort

The Range Rover Velar’s interior is then all about stylish simplicity. For instance, it has that classic Range Rover look inside – clean, stylish lines that run across your cabin – which is then mixed with a lot of clever new features to make driving feel calm and enjoyable.

For instance, here you get 2 sleek 10" touchscreens and easy-to-use controls as standard - so all the latest tech is right at your fingertips.

Then when you start the engine, the clever Touch Pro Duo system lights up, adding a real sense of luxury and modern design to the cabin as well.

If you then like a nice atmosphere inside, you can also pick from 10 colours with the optional ambient lighting, which, when combined with the optional panoramic roof – whether fixed or sliding – lets loads of natural light in as well - making the cabin feel bright and open.

Cabin Overall

The cabin has a very open, airy feel to it as well.

For instance, there is lots of natural light, especially if you have a panoramic roof.

The layout is overall tidy, and everything’s placed where you'd expect it.

For instance, it is not fussy at all — just stylish, with a relaxing atmosphere that is ideal for longer drives or a quick trip to the shops when you need to.

Front Seats

The front seats are also brilliant — super supportive and very adjustable as well.

So, whether you are tall or short, you will easily find a comfy driving position.

There are heating and cooling options, too, which is great for all seasons; plus, you also get a clear view of the road here, thanks to the Velar’s slightly raised seating position - which really does help you feel like you are in charge.

Rear Seats

In the back, there is also more than enough room for adults.

Here, you get a lot of legroom and headroom that are both generous, even if you have tall passengers.

The seats are also very comfy for longer journeys, and there is a fold-down armrest for a bit of extra ease as well, which is then further supported as you can also get heated rear seats - which is a nice little luxury for your passengers on those chilly mornings.

For instance, you can go for high-end leather upholstery or even eco-friendly alternatives like suede cloth or wool blends.

For your Infotainment System and Digital Displays, you get two main 10 inch touchscreens in the centre console, both sharp and responsive as standard.

The top screen then handles your navigation and media, while the lower one is more for your climate controls and driving settings.

It all looks very stylish, and there is also a digital driver display behind the wheel, which shows your speed, maps, and more in a very clear way, allowing you to get the information you need without taking your eyes off the road ahead.

Connectivity Options

The Range Rover Velar is also well-kitted out when it comes to keeping you connected as well.

For instance, here, you get Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard, so it is easy to link your phone for music, maps, and messages.

There is also Bluetooth, USB ports front and back, and even a built-in Wi-Fi hotspot in some models as well.

Making it great for keeping everyone entertained on the move as a direct result.

Plus, updates for the system can happen over the air, so you do not always need to visit a dealership to get the latest version as well here.

Touch Pro Duo

This smart setup then lets you see important info on one screen while using other features on the second – making things easier and more flexible.

For example, you can use the navigation on the top screen while a passenger controls the music on the bottom one to give you an example.

You can then choose to view things either on the driver display or the main Touch Pro Duo screens as well - depending on what works best for you here.

Head-Up Display

There is even an optional Head-Up Display that lets you see key driving info right on the windscreen - so you do not have to take your eyes off the road.

For instance, here, it will show you things like your speed, gear position, and navigation directions in full-colour, high-resolution graphics.

But, it can do more than that, as it can also display info from your phone and the main touchscreen on it as well.

It also includes a handy ‘Journey Status’ pop-up showing the time and distance left to your destination for your rear passengers to see as well.

The system also comes with two wireless WhiteFire® headphones, plus HDMI, MHL, and USB ports, so your passengers can connect their own devices and keep them charged throughout your journey.

Furthermore, you can also add the optional Digital TV feature, letting everyone enjoy their favourite shows – either on the front touchscreen or on the rear screens as well.

Meridian Signature Sound System

But, for the top-level audio experience, you have the Meridian Signature Sound System, which features 22 speakers and a dual-channel subwoofer.

The sound that is then produced is more lifelike, spacious, and immersive, and this system is optional on all Velar models.

The Range Rover Velar also comes packed full of comfort features, and it makes the most of space, giving everyone on board a high level of comfort and some very smart storage options to make use of.

For instance, here you have:

Automatic Access Height

With the optional Electronic Air Suspension, the Velar really makes getting in and out even easier.

For example, when you arrive and turn off the engine or unclip your seatbelt, the vehicle lowers by 10mm.

Then, when you open the door, it lowers further to 40mm below normal height – making entry and exit more relaxed and stylish.

Then, once you drive off, it automatically goes back to its normal ride height.

Spacious Interior

You also get a very large interior, and your passengers in the back can really stretch out - with 970mm of headroom and 43mm of knee room, for instance.

Then, for even more added comfort, you can choose optional electric recline rear seats - so everyone can sit back and relax even more.

Four-Zone Climate Control

This optional feature then lets everyone set their own preferred temperature and airflow conditions as well, so each passenger can stay comfortable, no matter where they are sitting in this luxury SUV.

Boot Space

The boot is nice and big, with plenty of room for luggage, shopping, or even a pushchair with up to 568 litres with the rear seats up.

The rear seats can also fold down flat, too, which gives you even more space if you need it.

Overall, this is more than ideal for everyday use, weekend getaways, or the odd trip to IKEA when you need to as well.

Storage Space

There is also lots of handy storage dotted around the cabin, and you have a deep centre console bin, big door pockets, and a glovebox that is actually useful.

Furthermore, there is also a wireless phone charger in most models, which is always handy.

All in all, its storage options are very practical without making the cabin feel cluttered or overstuffed.

Flexible Seating And Storage

The second row of seats also has a 40:20:40 split and includes an armrest and a pass-through section for long items like skis if needed as well.

For instance, with the rear seats folded down, you get up to 1,705 litres of loadspace – which is plenty of room for large items or several suitcases as well.

Remote App Control, Trackers, & Connectivity

If it detects someone is trying it, then alert both the police and share the vehicle’s location to help recover it quickly, as well as yourself.

The service is included for the length of the warranty.

Smartphone Pack

The Smartphone Pack then keeps you connected by linking your mobile to the car’s infotainment system.

Once you are done, you can then connect both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay to the car to use their operating systems instead of the car's built-in version.

Engine Options and Performance

Whether you are after power, smooth driving, or better fuel economy, the Range Rover Velar has a range of engines to suit your needs.

Here, for instance, each engine is made to offer you something a bit different, so there is something for everyone.

Another handy thing is that they all come with Stop / Start technology and clever regenerative charging, which captures energy when you brake and uses it to help charge the battery – especially handy for saving fuel in town driving.

Under the hood, you have several choices as well to choose from – the turbocharged four-cylinder engine P250 to the more powerful battery power P400e with a six-cylinder engine and bigger battery, for instance.

The new Velar 3.0 version also brings even more punch, while the electric motor in the hybrid setup helps you at low speeds to improve your fuel economy.

The automatic gearbox is also smooth, and the body control is impressive for such a big car, which we must note here.

For your engine options, you have several to choose from here, including:

Range Rover Velar Alloy Wheels

This engine produces 430Nm of torque and is designed to give you the best fuel economy in the range. It’s clean, smooth and efficient – ideal for everyday driving.

  • High-pressure fuel injection, variable cam timing, and a water-cooled intercooler work together for clean combustion.
  • Smart engine cooling only runs when needed, helping save fuel and lower CO₂ emissions.
  • A variable geometry turbocharger adjusts to give strong torque across the rev range, with less lag.

Range Rover Velar Interior

8-Speed Four-wheel Drive Automatic Transmission

All petrol and diesel engines in the Range Rover Velar come with an 8-speed automatic gearbox.

Here, the gears are placed close together, and it always picks the best one to help you save fuel and get smooth acceleration as well.

The gear changes are also so smooth that you will barely notice them, too.

Plus, the system learns how you drive and adjusts itself to suit your style; then, if you fancy taking over, there are gearshift paddles on the steering wheel to help you do so easily and whenever you want as well.

All Wheel Drive With Intelligent Driveline Dynamics

The Range Rover Velar’s All Wheel Drive (AWD) with Intelligent Driveline Dynamics (IDD) also comes as standard and gives you great performance on the road - as well as proper off-road capability as you would expect from a Range Rover.

The AWD and IDD systems then work together to constantly adjust how the engine’s power is shared between the front and back wheels as well.

This collaboration then helps to give you the best grip and fuel efficiency, no matter the road or weather conditions we may add.

Electric Multi-plate Clutch

The systems are also specially made for the Velar and use a strong transfer box with an electric multi-plate clutch, which smoothly controls where the power goes without you even noticing - making sure the car keeps its grip efficiently.

The IDD also watches how the car is driving and how it connects with the road, and it usually starts with a 50:50 split between the front and back for stability - but it can shift all the power to either end if you need it as well.

As a result, it does not just react when you slip – it can actually predict and stop a loss of traction before it even happens as well - it is literally that clever.

Low Traction Conditions

On slippery surfaces like wet grass or snow, the system will also balance power between the front and back wheels to help you stay in control here.

So, if you get into a really tricky situation and only the front wheels have a grip, all the engine power can go to the front to get you the best traction possible for your situation.

High Traction Conditions

On dry, smooth roads, the Velar also sends more power to the back wheels, which gives you better fuel efficiency overall, plus sharper and more responsive handling as a direct result as well.

Torque Vectoring By Braking

The Torque Vectoring By Braking is a clever system that helps you corner smoothly and safely.

It does so when it senses you are starting to understeer (where the car isn’t turning as much as you want), and it gently brakes the inside wheels to help you counter.

This countering then helps you stay on your intended path by keeping power on the outer wheels.

Adaptive Dynamics

The optional Adaptive Dynamics system then gives you a smooth, comfortable ride quality while still keeping the drive sharp and responsive.

It does so by constantly checking how the wheels and body of the car are moving, and the system then looks at things like how quickly you are accelerating, turning the wheel, pressing the throttle or brake, to name a few.

It then adjusts the suspension automatically for you using special dampers to make sure the car feels just right – regardless of whether you are cruising along or taking a corner.

Configurable Dynamics

If you then want to tailor the way your Velar drives, the optional Configurable Dynamics feature will let you do just that.

For instance, you can choose how the throttle responds, when the gears shift, how the steering feels, and even how the suspension behaves – so it suits your exact style, regardless of whether you want comfort or performance here.

On-Road and Off-Road Capabilities

Despite being a luxury SUV, the Range Rover Velar still gives you genuine off-road capability.

For your capabilities, here the Range Rover Velar mixes luxury with impressive all-terrain ability - staying true to Land Rover’s world-famous performance.

While it brings a modern, stylish look, it is also built to handle rough conditions with ease, thanks to some clever Land Rover technology and carefully designed body shape.

For instance, here you have:

Hill Descent Control (HDC)

Hill Descent Control (HDC), for instance, comes as standard, which helps you drive down steep slopes by keeping the speed steady and braking each wheel separately.

Hill Launch Assist

Hill Launch Assist is also standard and stops the car from rolling backwards when you’re pulling away uphill.

Range Rover Velar Rear View

Another handy standard feature is Gradient Release Control – as it stops the car from speeding up too quickly on a steep slope when you take your foot off the brake.

The optional Electronic Air Suspension (EAS) then gives you a smooth, steady ride, even over rough ground.

For instance, the EAS can quickly raise or lower the car to help keep all four wheels in contact with the ground.

This ability then makes the drive more stable and gives you better control on uneven surfaces.

You can also lower the car by up to 50mm to make it easier to load heavy things into the boot as well.

You can do this using the 10" Touchscreen, the key fob, or a button in the boot area - giving you multiple options depending on where you are when you need to do so.

The system also includes speed lowering – when you hit 65mph, the car lowers by 10mm to reduce your drag and help you save on fuel as you do so.

All Terrain Progress Control is an optional system that works like low-speed cruise control for tricky surfaces like mud, snow, or wet grass.

For example, it lets you set a steady speed between 1mph and 18mph, so you can focus on steering and picking the best path while the car handles the speed for you.

The standard Terrain Response system from Land Rover then lets you manually choose the best setup for the road or terrain you are on.

It does so by allowing you to adjust the engine, gearbox, differentials, and chassis systems to match the conditions you are facing.

For instance, there are six settings to choose from here: Comfort, Grass/Gravel/Snow, Mud and Ruts, Sand, ECO, and Dynamic Mode - all of which give the car different instructions on how to act based on the conditions you are facing.

Terrain Response 2 is then an optional upgrade that takes things even further.

For instance, it has an automatic mode that watches the driving conditions and picks the best setting for you.

If you prefer, you can still switch the settings manually.

All in all, everything is controlled smoothly through the lower screen on the Touch Pro Duo system for you.

The Range Rover Velar also comes with Wade Sensing, which is a clever optional system that’s unique to Land Rover.

The Wade Sensing system then uses sensors in the wing mirrors to warn you if water is getting close to the vehicle’s top wading depth of 650mm.

Here, you will then see real-time info on the touchscreen showing how deep the water is compared to the car’s limit – both in pictures and sound alerts to help give you the information you need to have at that moment in time.

This feature is also only available if you have got the 360º Surround Camera fitted, which we should note here.

The optional Active Rear Locking Differential then helps to give you the best possible grip, whether you are driving on or off the road, no matter the weather.

It does so in a standard setup, as it lets the car share the power equally between both the rear wheels.

For example, if one wheel then slips, the other cannot do much either – and you lose traction, but the Range Rover Velar’s All Wheel Drive (AWD) system, along with Intelligent Driveline Dynamics (IDD) and Electronic Traction Control (ETC) – which all come as standard – go further here for you.

Here, for instance, they send power where it is needed most and can even brake individual wheels for you to help keep you moving.

The Active Rear Locking Differential then adds another level. It uses a second multi-plate clutch between the rear wheels that can lock very quickly - sending full power to both wheels at the back when needed.

This really helps when driving on tricky surfaces like icy patches or wet grass or when one wheel lifts off the ground off-road.

As a result, it is also great when coming out of a bend as well; if the inside rear wheel gets light from the weight shifting, the system automatically sends more power to the outer wheel to help keep you steady and in control as well.

Range Rover Velar Alloys

The Velar is packed with safety system technology like blind spot monitoring, rear parking sensors, and emergency braking.

It’s received strong Euro NCAP 5 star ratings, making it a safe bet for families, and it also features a rear window camera and speed alerts to help keep you aware of your surroundings.

Built-In Safety

The Range Rover Velar is also designed with your safety in mind.

For instance, it is packed with features that not only protect you and your passengers but also help to prevent accidents before they even happen.

Sports Command Driving Position

The raised driving position here also gives you a better view of the road ahead and helps others see you more easily, too.

This extra visibility then gives you more confidence and helps you stay safer in all types of driving conditions as well here.

Reliability

All of these safety features really help to give you a car that stays reliable for as long as possible, and it has won many awards, which takes this into account.

Anti-lock Braking System (ABS)

The ABS then stops the wheels from locking up during hard braking.

This then helps you stay in control and steer around obstacles, especially in emergency situations, and it also helps shorten your stopping distances on most road surfaces too.

Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD)

The EBD then works with the braking system to send the right amount of force to each wheel.

This, in turn, helps the Velar stop quickly while still keeping full control and stability, especially when the road surface or vehicle load changes.

All Wheel Drive With Intelligent Driveline Dynamics

The Velar’s trusted All Wheel Drive (AWD) system, paired with Intelligent Driveline Dynamics (IDD), also comes as standard.

This then gives you great grip and control, no matter the weather or surface, so you always feel sure-footed behind the wheel.

Dynamic Stability Control (DSC)

The DSC system then keeps an eye on how the car is behaving.

If it then senses the vehicle is slipping or losing control, it steps in by adjusting the engine power and braking individual wheels automatically to help bring you safely back on track, reducing any understeer or oversteer as well in the process.

Electronic Traction Control (ETC)

ETC helps keep you steady by stopping the wheels from spinning when there’s not enough grip. It lowers the engine power to the spinning wheel and, if needed, applies the brake to help regain traction.

Cornering Brake Control (CBC)

When you brake around a corner, CBC steps in to stop the wheels from locking up. It adjusts the braking force to each wheel depending on grip levels, helping you stay in control.

Range Rover Velar On Charge
Range Rover Velar Side View

Roll Stability Control (RSC)

RSC works with Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) to help prevent rollovers. It watches how the car is moving and the forces in corners. If there’s a risk of tipping, it gently brakes the outside front wheel to keep things balanced and stable.

Emergency Brake Assist

If you press the brake quickly but not hard enough, this system recognises an emergency stop and boosts the brake pressure to help you stop in time.

Emergency Stop Signal

During sudden braking, this system turns on your hazard lights automatically to warn drivers behind you, helping reduce the chance of a collision.

Child Seat Safety

For peace of mind with little ones, there are two ISOFIX mounting points in the back seats for secure baby or child seat attachment.

Airbags

The Velar comes with six airbags as standard – including front, side, curtain, and thorax airbags – offering all-round protection for you and your passengers.

Five-Star Euro NCAP Rating

The Range Rover Velar has been given the top five-star safety rating by Euro NCAP. It scored highly for protecting adults, children, and pedestrians – making it one of the safest vehicles on the road today.

Emergency Braking

This system helps avoid crashes with other vehicles or people. If it spots a possible collision up ahead, it gives you a warning so you can react in time. If you don’t respond and a crash still looks likely, the car will apply the brakes to reduce the impact. It works between 3–50mph for vehicles and 3–37mph for pedestrians.

Rear Camera

The Rear Camera gives you a clear view when reversing and helps make parking much easier. It’s especially useful when hitching a trailer. On the screen, you’ll see lines that show your car’s path and edges, helping you park confidently, even in tight spots.

Cruise Control With Speed Limit

This feature keeps your car at a steady speed without you needing to press the accelerator, which helps reduce tiredness on long drives. The Speed Limiter also lets you set a top speed that the car won’t go over. You can turn both features on or off whenever you like.

Driver Condition Monitor

This smart system watches for signs that you’re getting drowsy. If it thinks you need a break, it gives you an early warning so you can stop and rest.

Lane Keep Assist

If you start drifting out of your lane without meaning to, this system gently steers you back by applying a small force to the steering wheel. It helps you stay safely in your lane.

Front And Rear Parking Aid

When you reverse or activate the system, sensors in the front and back bumpers switch on. They help you park by showing how close you are to obstacles, using both sounds and graphics on the screen.

360º Surround Camera

This optional feature uses four cameras placed around the car to give you a full overhead view of the screen. It can show different angles at once, helping with parking near kerbs or getting through tight spaces and tricky junctions.

Range Rover Velar Grille
Range Rover Velar Side View

Blind Spot Assist

When you start to change lanes, this system checks your blind spots. If there’s a car there, a warning light shows up in the side mirror, and the car gently steers you away from danger to help avoid a crash.

Park Assist

This system helps with both parallel and bay parking. It steers the car into the space while you control the speed using the pedals. It even helps steer you out of a space, making parking much less stressful. On-screen prompts guide you throughout.

Rear Traffic Monitor

This handy feature alerts you to any cars, people or hazards coming from either side when you’re reversing out of a parking space. It gives you both sound and visual warnings, especially useful when your rear view is blocked.

360° Parking Aid

This system helps when parking in tight spots. Sensors around the car switch on when you reverse (or manually), and you’ll see an overhead view on the screen. It also gives sound alerts, so you know how close you are to objects.

Adaptive Cruise Control

This keeps a safe distance between you and the car in front. If they slow down or stop, your car does too. In stop-start traffic, it will follow the car in front automatically. It works from 13mph and keeps going all the way up to 124mph.

High-Speed Emergency Braking

This system is always ready from 13mph to motorway speeds. If a frontal collision looks likely, it gives you a warning. If you don’t react in time, it applies the brakes to reduce the impact.

Trim Levels

You also have several trim levels to pick from, starting with the base spec, going through to the plush Range Rover Velar R-Dynamic, and finally, the top-end Dynamic HSE.

The price range here is broad, with entry models offering decent value, while fully loaded versions come with a proper price tag.

Costs and Value for Money

The Velar sits in a higher insurance group than some rivals, but running costs are reasonable thanks to the mild-hybrid system.

For its costs, these start from around £70,000, and servicing and parts are in line with other luxury cars.

The resale value remains relatively strong as well – particularly in the used market, where used Range Rover Velar models are in demand.

Competitor Comparison

Here it competes very strongly at the top of the market.

For instance, compared to the Porsche Macan, the Velar feels more luxurious, and compared to the BMW X5, the Volvo XC60 and Lexus NX are also strong contenders in the space, but it really does hold its own with a better interior design in general and more features.

The Audi Q8 also can not match the Velar’s off-road capability.

Here, the Velar competes very well against:

  • BMW X3
  • BMW X5
  • Audi Q7
  • Mercedes-Benz GLE
  • Volvo XC90
  • Porsche Macan
  • Jaguar F-Pace
  • Lexus RX
  • Genesis GV80
  • Alfa Romeo Stelvio
  • Tesla Model Y

Is the Range Rover Velar a 7-seater?
