Brief History

The Range Rover was first launched all the way back in 1970 and is one of the first luxury SUVs - especially with the top-spec SV model - which really does combine off-road capability with very high-end comfort.

First Generation

Initially designed as a more rugged vehicle, the early Range Rover Classic offered you four-wheel-drive performance with a simple, practical interior.

Previous Generations

However, as decades passed, each generation added more new luxury features and advanced technology, gradually shifting the Range Rover into a more premium segment, all while maintaining its off-road roots.

Third Generation

In 2002, the third-generation Range Rover SUV was a game changer as it introduced more high-end materials and technology, which only reinforced its luxury appeal for buyers to this day as a result.

Fourth Generation

The fourth-generation model was then launched in 2012 and was the first SUV with an all-aluminium unibody - helping to reduce its weight and improving its efficiency as it did so.

Fifth Generation

Today, the latest Range Rover models give you a seven-seat SUV that has that cutting-edge technology - including Amazon Alexa built-in - that you are looking for, but with very high-end and refined interiors - and even electric versions - making it one of the most iconic and also best luxury SUVs on the market today as a result.

Style & Design

When it comes to the new Range Rover, it is both stylish and an incredibly luxurious SUV offering many Best-in-class features and some firsts for Range Rover itself. It was designed by Gerry McGovern, Chief Creative Officer at Jaguar Land Rover, and the design shows.

Body

When looking at just the body design, it is full of charm, defined by a harmony of proportions, has a beautiful falling roofline, reductive surfaces, precise lines, strong waistline, and a lower rising sill.

Cabin

Alongside the precise lines of the body, its refinement in the cabin is all about high-end luxury and comfort. This refinement sits at the heart of the new Range Rover as everywhere you look - and touch - reinforces that “no detail has been overlooked” feeling.

Front and Sides

The front and sides of the Range Rover have been designed to provide a solid appearance, with flush glazing. A hidden door handle finisher to allow for greater streamline ability. Laser-welded roof joints allow the roof lines to flawlessly fall into the high finish design, improving aerodynamics.

Rear

The rear of the Range Rover is defined by vertical tail lights - that remain hidden until the lights are turned on or the brakes applied.

Alloy Wheels

The wheels of the new model, for the first time, come with beautifully designed and premium 21-inch to 23-inch wheels.

With options ranging from classic to contemporary finishes and sizes, each wheel really does help to complement the SUV’s look and rugged capabilities. For instance, here you can choose from for instance:

Wheelbase Options

The Range Rover SE is also available in both Standard Wheelbase (SWB) and Long Wheelbase Version (LWB) configurations, offering you the option to choose the chassis type that gives you the space and comfort you want from this large SUV.

How these differ, for instance, includes:

Standard Wheelbase (SWB)

The Standard Wheelbase (SWB) version of the Range Rover SE has a wheelbase of 2,997 mm, which provides you with a well-balanced mix of manoeuvrability and spaciousness - making it ideal for those who want a more compact feel without compromising on luxury or off-road capability.

Long Wheelbase (LWB)

The Long Wheelbase (LWB) version extends the wheelbase to around 3,197 mm, offering you additional rear legroom and luggage space as it does so.

This configuration then improves your comfort, especially for your rear-seat passengers, as it makes it perfect for those looking for a more luxurious and spacious interior especially.

We should also note here that both the SWB and LWB versions retain the Range Rover’s signature performance and comfort, with the LWB configuration designed more for those who desire extra room for an improved driving experience overall.

Pixel LED Headlights with Image Projection

The headlights that come with the new Range Rover are Pixel LED highlights with a Signature Light Graphic - which is truly distinctive in appearance.

Intuitive Technology

The new Range Rover comes with a large range of technology built in. Let’s explore some of the main technology in depth.

Pivi Pro infotainment system

  • Curved ‘floating glass’ 13.1” Touchscreen with haptic controls
  • Newly designed interface
  • Over-the-air software updates
  • Wireless Apple CarPlay®

Two Rear Seat Entertainment Displays

The rear passenger seats also have their own 11.4-inch hi-definition screens. These even allow your passengers to connect their laptops, DVD players, game consoles, and more to enjoy their journey in both style and comfort.

These screens can also come with their own Range Rover branded headphones, which give an enhanced sound quality and cinema-like sound experience for your rear passengers.

Drive Display

Along with the 13-inch digital screen, the new Range Rover also has a screen - where the Speedometer would traditionally be behind the wheel - along with a projection heads-up display.

These allow you to choose from a variety of layouts, including 3D navigation, information about your driving, and what audio is playing, all directly in your eyeline.

Floating 13.1 Inch Touchscreen (Front of the cabin)

This display allows you to access the Pivi Pro entertainment system, along with showing you information such as what is immediately in front of the Range Rover, the water depth of streams you drive through, a 360-degree camera display of your surroundings and much, much more.

Range Rover Seat Configurations

The new Range Rover model can come in 4 or 5-seat versions, and for a first for Range Rover, their first ever 7-seat model as well.

Range Rover Seat Materials

Rear Seats

When you step inside the rear, the Range Rover SE also comes with very luxurious back seats as well which give you pleanty of legroom and premium materials at the same time.

In models with a third row, this also gives you up to seven seats, making it ideal for families or group travel as a result.

Intelligent Chassis

The new intelligent chassis of the Range Rover actually monitors the road for you on your behalf - up to an impressive 2.5 kilometers ahead.

The active built-in systems then prepare the car for upcoming corners by using real-time navigation & and speed data to automatically adjust settings, such as lowering the suspension - at speed - to maximise efficiency & and aerodynamics while maneuvering.

Dynamic Response Pro

Dynamic Response Pro, gives you further driver assistance by giving you more poise & control when cornering with this active roll control system.

All Wheel Drive & Braking Features

There is a new feature available called Torque Vectoring by Braking system. This system essentially aids you by giving you more control when turning. The new intelligent AWD (All Wheel Drive) system can then provide the torque where needed for optimal grip.

Quiet Driving Experience

The dual dampers minimise noise and vibrations during driving for a comfortable, quiet, and calm travel experience.

Wading Depth Deep Water Indicators

The Range Rover's wading depth covers up to 900mm of water from the tyres up - around to - the top of the wheel arch. There are then sensors built into the wing mirrors - that are used by the car - to measure the current water depth around the SUV in real-time. It then displays all information on the front touch screen so you can see how deep the water is around the base of the car with ease.

High Inclines & Terrain Response System

The SUV helps you to tackle steep inclines of up to 45 degrees. Alongside this, it comes with a dedicated Terrain Response System.

This Terrain Response System automatically works out the optimal settings for the Range Rover based on the terrain to hand. It then automatically deploys the right settings to assist in more difficult areas; however, all of these can also be manually adjusted to give you extra control - all from the touchscreen within the cabin.

This system enables you to maintain a constant fixed speed over difficult terrain so you can focus solely on steering.

Clear Site Ground View

Further to the Terrain Response System, the Range Rover has another feature called Clear Site Ground View. This view gives you a sight to directly see what is in front of the bonnet on the in-car touchscreen - so you can see the ground immediately in front of the car, without you needing to get out and have a look at what the ground is like in front of the bonnet.

This system effectively allows you to virtually “see through” the bonnet

3D 360 Surround Camera

The built-in camera system gives you a 3D picture - via the front touch screen - which is representative of the whole area around the car.

This is useful when trying to get into car parking spaces, enabling you to see how far from the curb you are, along with the off-road conditions around you, that you may not be able to immediately visually see via the windows.

Range Rover Bodywork

Turning Circle

The rear wheels on the Range Rover turn an extra 7 degrees than the front wheels do when turning. This gives the Range Rover an impressive turning circle for its size of under 11 metres. Meaning you can turn the car in much tighter spaces than normal.

Wireless Charging

Wireless charging is available in both the front and rear of the car - so both the driver and passengers can keep their phones connected and charged easily throughout the journey.

4 Seat SV Luxury

If you decide to choose the 4 seater version, this model will replace one of the seats in the rear and instead gives you the most luxury in the passenger area available from this range.

It accomplishes this by replacing the middle seat with a full-length centre console in between the 2 rear seats. This is trimmed in leather, and has an electrically deployable club table, as well as electrically deployable cup holders.

Behind this comes a hidden illuminated rear console fridge with an electronically deployable door & SV-branded glassware.

Windsor Leather

The Range Rover’s cabin can also be upgraded to be styled in high-quality Windsor Leather throughout - on all leather-based interiors. Giving you a high luxury finish.

Alternatively, you can opt for a super soft grade of leather instead, if you so wish.

Safety Features

The Range Rover SE really is designed with advanced safety features that give you a very secure and comfortable driving experience, whether on city streets or rough terrains equally.

For instance, some noteworthy features here consist of the following:

Low-Speed Safety and Maneuvering

For improved control at low speeds (ideal for situations when you are off-road), the Range Rover SE is equipped with technologies like its Adaptive Air Suspension - which automatically adjusts the vehicle's height up to 295mm for improved ground clearance to help you move over uneven ground much easier.

Adaptive Air Suspension with Air Springs

The Adaptive Air Suspension, when it is paired with the car's strong air spring suspension, gives you a better ride quality that is smoother by dynamically adjusting to changing road conditions on the fly for you.

Enhanced Vision and Rear-View Mirror

For improved visibility, the Range Rover SE features a high-tech digital rear-view mirror that really gives you a clear view of the road behind - even if the rear window is obstructed by your luggage or passengers.

Active Anti-Roll Bars

With active anti-roll bars as well, the Range Rover SE gives you increased stability and strength by reducing body roll when cornering. This feature is particularly valuable when driving at higher speeds or on winding roads - allowing for better handling and a safer, more controlled driving experience at the same time.

Blind Spot Monitoring

Also equipped with blind spot monitoring technology, the Range Rover SE will alert you to vehicles in your blind spots, helping you to reduce the risk of side collisions occurring when changing lanes especially.

Range Rover Engines

For your engines, you have a selection of available fuel types to choose from, from its diesel engines, the latest 530 PS 4.4 Litre V8 engine, to its electric motors, which can help you reduce your running costs thanks to its 75-mile electric range that is available in its electric version - which will also be of interested to company car drivers thanks to the low BiK and company car tax you get with driving a hybrid.

As a result, when it comes to their performance stats, you are looking at, for instance:

Engine Type Model Name Power Output Torque 0-60 mph Top Speed Real-World Fuel Economy (Combined)
Diesel D300 300 PS 650 Nm 6.3 sec 135 mph 35.2–38.2 mpg
Diesel D350 350 PS 700 Nm 5.8 sec 145 mph 33.6–35.3 mpg
Petrol P400 400 PS 550 Nm 5.8 sec 150 mph 25.0–26.2 mpg
Plug-in Hybrid P440e 440 PS 620 Nm 5.5 sec 140 mph 282.5–317.4 mpg
Plug-in Hybrid P510e 510 PS 700 Nm 5.2 sec 150 mph 282.5–317.4 mpg

Note: Fuel economy figures are based on the WLTP combined cycle and may vary depending on driving conditions and specifications.

Charging

For charging the plug-in hybrid versions, Range Rover claims it should take around an hour for it to get to 80 per cent when you are using its maximum charge rate as well.

This should then allow you to get back on to just pure electric driving very quickly when needed.

Optimises Engine Performance with Navigation Data

The engines can also use the navigation system data as a prediction system to give the car data to preserve the battery charge based on the route ahead for the electric models. It achieves this by automatically deploying electric mode when routes include low-emission or congestion charging zones.

This smart prediction model gets the most distance from the battery that it can, meaning less time in between charging while on your journey - and giving you a longer range.

Branded SV Pet Products

There is a range of SV-branded pet products available. These include:

A Rear Boot Ramp

This rear boot ramp allows dogs to walk up or down from the boot safely with ease, without the need of lifting them in and out and running the risk of scratching the paintwork.

A Hose

We all know the nightmare of when your dog is covered in dirt from a country walk and trying to get them into the boot without making a total mess of the car.

This hose feature allows you to hose the dog down and clean off the mud prior to them getting into the car. This can come in handy to be used to fill up their water bowls while you are at a sporting event or picnic as well.

SV Branded Pet Bowls

SV branded pet bowls are also available for your pet to be able to eat and drink whilst you are using the car out and about.

Rear Boot Features

The boot in the new Range Rover not only gives you plenty of boot space with 725 litres available when all seats are up, which can be expanded to 1,842 litres when the rear seats are down.

However, this can also come with lots of extra features, such as containing 2 pop-up rear viewing outdoor seats, which allow you the perfect place to sit while watching sporting games - such as your child playing Rugby or rowing while the car is parked up nearby.

Further to this, the rear also comes with its own speaker system, which allows for full music control of the music playing in the boot via your phone - perfect for those picnics and ambient background noise.

Remote Features

The new Range Rover also has lots of remote features, such as the ability to heat or cool the vehicle remotely via the phone app integration, move the car small distances, and view key information about the car while you are away from it.

Towing Weight and Hitch Assist

The Range Rover has immense towing ability and can tow up to 3,500 KG - when you then add in Hitch Assist, it also allows you to hitch up with ease as well.

Hitch Assist allows you to reverse up close to the vehicle you would like to tow by giving you a video feed of the rear via the touchscreen and then deploying the tow bar electronically.

There is also Advanced Tow Assist, which helps you steer while reversing with a connected trailer - making steering even easier during those difficult manoeuvres.

Roof Carrying Capacity

There are a number of accessories available that allow for a wide range of easy-fitting roof connections. These vary from purpose-fitted roof box and wheel-mounted roof carriers to ski or snowboard roof carriers.

Remote Park Assist

The new Range Rover can also include the ability to Remote Park via the App. This allows you, for instance, to move the car from a tight parking space prior to getting in all remotely from the connected phone App - thus reducing the difficulty of getting in tight spaces and scuffing your doors trying to.

Advanced Driver Systems

Further to all the comfort and luxury the Range Rover gives you, it can come with a large range of advanced driver systems.

These driver systems can include:

Adaptive Cruise Control with Steering Assist

This feature keeps your distance from the vehicles in front automatically for you.

Occupant Protection Assist

Occupant Protection Assist identifies any potential collision about to occur in real-time & prepares the cabin - ahead of time - to provide additional protection for its occupants automatically, to reduce the risk of harm to the passengers during a collision.

Driver Condition Response

Driver Condition Response, warns you should you become unresponsive. It can even help to bring the vehicle to a controlled stop on its own without the driver

As you can see, this luxury SUV comes packed with tech, and in our view, it also gives you more luxury features that are found in similar cars of its class, such as the new BMW X7, a Rolls-Royce Cullinan, or a Porsche Cayenne for instance - at the end of the day they are simply not a Range Rover.
