Rear

Round the back; we were then greeted by a tidy tailgate that had some very clean lines and a simple light bar that spans from one side to the other, which lights up exceptionally well, in our opinion.

The rear bumper has also been kept low for easy loading, all while the subtle ID. Buzz badging adds a dash of Style without being too shouty about it - which is another design touch we really liked.

Volkswagen has given the ID. Buzz is a set of some very stylish alloy wheels that, in our opinion, tie together its retro charm and modern design really well.

Moving to the interior, there is also a lot that impressed us, from the Captian chairs, its huge boot space, wood dashboard trim, heated and cooled front seats that also feature a massaging lumbar with thigh extension support, and heated outboard second-row seats as well.

Furthermore, you can stay more than cosy with a heated steering wheel, tri-zone climate control, and a removable centre console, all while you enjoy your phone apps via connectivity options that are available through the 12.9-inch centre display - with both wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto; along with wireless phone charging, satellite radio, Bluetooth, and seven USB-C ports plus one dedicated USB-C dash-cam port as well to name just a few of its features here.

Front Seats

We also found the front seats in the VW ID. Buzz is wonderfully supportive in our view, while they also give you a high seating and commanding driving position that gives you a great view of the road ahead.

We also thought that they are very nicely cushioned and adjustable, which will make long journeys feel much more relaxed, as a result.

Plus, we also appreciated that the armrests on both sides of each front seat add that welcome touch of comfort to your drive as well.

Rear Seats

Moving to the back seats, you will find a spacious third-row bench that is really designed to give both your family and friends a lot of comfort while riding in the back.

The rear seats here also have plenty of leg and headroom, even for taller passengers, so no one feels cramped, which is hard to find outside of an electric MPV like the Buzz these days.

For that added flexibility, the rear bench can also be folded and adjusted in different ways as well to give you more boot space or just to make room for extra luggage when needed as well.

In the five-seat setup as well, there are two captain’s chairs in the front and a three-seat bench at the rear, but if you want extra seats, there is also a six-seater configuration available that then replaces the bench with a third row of seats (two seats each).

The menus are also well laid out, and the system responds smoothly to your commands as well, which means less faffing about and more time just enjoying your journey as a result.

Of course, phone integration comes as standard as is expected these days, so you can easily use your favourite apps on the go from the Life model up through the line.

Cluster and Heads-Up

In front of you, you will also find a digital instrument cluster that’s crisp and easy to read as well.

This then displays essential information like your speed, speed limit, range, and driving data, and there is also an optional heads-up display that projects key details directly onto the windscreen - allowing you to keep your eyes on the road while giving you everything you need at a glance as you do so.

Boot Space

Finally, let’s talk about the boot.

It’s quite generous, offering you plenty of space from 306 litres with all the seats in place up to 1,121 litres with the rear seats laid flat - which is more than enough for your family’s shopping, luggage, or even your beloved pet’s travel cage. We should also note that other EVs, such as the Tesla Model Y, Volkswagen Golf 8.5, or the Hyundai Ioniq 5, for instance, just don't come close to what is on offer, the electric VW ID.Buzz here, to be honest.

The wide opening and low loading height of the boot's door also make it really straightforward to pack and unpack as here, so heading off on a road trip or just doing your weekly food shop will become that little bit easier due to this nice added touch to the boot design as well.

The steering us also felt light yet communicative, and especially when paired with the VW’s low centre of gravity, strong electric motor and electric power output, and strong brake feel, it really does give you a thrilling driving experience with a 0-62mph time of 7.6 seconds, a good overall higher speed ability as well.

Why the ID. Buzz is Great for Camping

When it comes to camping, the ID. Buzz, in our view, can make an excellent campervan because it offers you a lot of interior space and clever seating options that can be rearranged for sleeping or extra luggage.

However, it also gives you large doors and a low boot lip, making loading and unloading very simple - so you can pack all your camping gear really easily as a result.

You will also appreciate the bright windows and optional panoramic sunroof, which will really help to create a cosy, airy feel when you’re parked up for the night as well.

All of this is then supported really well, thanks to the built-in infotainment system that lets you stay connected, whether you are planning your route or streaming music around the campfire that is.

Plus, the electric powertrain here can also be repurposed, so you can even run small appliances without worrying about noise or fumes, giving you a cleaner and calmer camping experience overall as a result as well.

Warranty

Moving on to its warranty, you can count on it being covered long after you purchase your ID. Buzz - thanks to its comprehensive three-year, 100,000-mile warranty.

For instance, while your ID. Buzz is under warranty; Volkswagen will be happy to repair any defect in manufacture or workmanship free of charge, even if you decide to buy and service your vehicle at a different Van Centrewell.

Some exclusions apply, though, and you should follow the guidance in your owner’s manual to make sure you get the most out of your coverage as well.

Battery Warranty

A guarantee for eight years or 100,000 miles/160,000 km (whichever is sooner) covers all material or manufacturing defects.

A gradual reduction in battery capacity over time is normal and does not represent a defect under this guarantee, as long as it remains within the limits specified for this vehicle in the owner’s manual.

Apart from the warranty term, all other warranty conditions issued by the Volkswagen retailer who sold you the vehicle (including prerequisites, criteria for freedom from defects, exclusions, claim procedures, when the warranty starts, and length of the extended term, as well as where it applies) also apply to the high voltage battery.

Roadside Assistance

Volkswagen understands the need to keep you mobile; that's why all new Buzz vans come with three-year, unlimited mileage roadside cover as well as standard.

As a result, should the unexpected happen, one call puts you in touch with a team trained to help you through any breakdown or accident.

Assistance Benefits

These benefits, for instance, even cover the following:

  • Assistance at home, by the roadside, or at your place of work.
  • Recovery to your preferred location.
  • Onward travel for you and your cargo.
  • Cover 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
  • Free cover for three years (on new vehicles).
  • Unlimited mileage.
  • European cover.
  • Option to extend cover beyond three years.

Insurance Groups

The ID. Buzz falls into fairly standard insurance groups for its class, coming in at Insurance Group 31 for the Life, with the GTX trim climbing up to Group 33 - all of which means it shouldn’t prove overly costly on the insurance front for you as well - all of which help to keep your running costs down as over the long run.
