Now in showrooms: the VW Amarok Ultimate Edition

Even without the words 'Ultimate Edition' after it, the Volkswagen Amarok is a very popular pick-up. Made by Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles and first released back in 2011, the Amarok has been voted Best Pick-Up of the Year three times in a row by Auto Express magazine and won What Van? Pick-Up of the Year in 2012. It remains extremely well thought of in UK car and truck circles, and now Volkswagen have gone one step further, releasing the new Amarok Ultimate Edition. Limited to 500 units, this luxurious edition of the classic Amarok pick-up truck is in high demand. So what exactly makes this new edition of the Amarok 'ultimate'?

Priced at considerably more than the standard edition, starting at £29,555 (excluding VAT), the Amarok Ultimate Edition justifies its price tag with a whole host of luxurious, new and exciting upgrades and features. On the exterior, the Ultimate Edition boasts new 19 inch alloy wheels, LED daytime running lights, bi-xenon headlights, dark tinted tail lights, and a double chrome radiator grille. It also comes with 'Ultimate' decals on the sides, so everyone will know that you've got the Ultimate Edition. Its doors are adorned with new electric folding wing mirrors, and it has alloy pedals, heated leather seats, sat nav, and a plush leather multi-function wheel. The Amarok Ultimate Edition also has tinted windows, back window privacy glass, built in Bluetooth, and a reversing camera. The truck will come in a choice of two sleek colours: Reflex Silver and Deep Black.

Under the hood, the Ultimate Edition comes with a 2.0 litre BiTDI engine and permanent four wheel drive, no matter whether you go for the six speed manual or eight speed automatic option. This powerful engine is capable of producing 178 bhp and 420 Nm of torque. The manual will set you back £29,555, whereas the automatic will cost you a tad more at £30,970. The manual version will manage 35.3 mpg, whilst the automatic will get 33.2 mpg. This means the engine remains relatively similar to both the standard edition and Amarok's main market rival, the Ford Ranger, although the extra features and upgrades on this Ultimate Edition put a great distance between the two vehicles.
