Flagship Jaguar XJ To Be One Of The First Electric Luxury Saloon Cars

Though details are thin on the ground at the moment, there’s increasing excitement about the arrival of Jaguar’s all-new, all-electric XJ saloon, which was announced by the company last year. Set to be one of the leading electric vehicles on the market, the car is expected to be formally unveiled later this year before finally going on sale in the first half of 2021. Having been in development for some time, big things are expected, and it’s set to rival other premier electric cars such as Tesla Model S and the forthcoming Mercedes EQS at the top of the market.

Though the precise details of the car are kept under wraps, some details are known, including the general appearance, since the vehicle was photographed during cold-weather testing. The design is classic Jaguar and looks like a luxury saloon car. It’s also large, or at least so says the photographer who spied the vehicle during testing, so we can expect that there will be plenty of space both for individuals riding in the vehicle and in terms of storage space.

While there’s not much by-way of hard evidence in terms of the aesthetic qualities of the XJ, there have been some details announced by the company as to what we can expect when it’s finally launched. They say that it’ll have characteristics in line with the vehicle’s predecessors, strong design, and intelligent performance. As we’ve come to expect from Jaguar, there will also be touches of luxury present throughout. As their flagship, it’s hard to imagine that the vehicle will be anything other than standout: the manufacturer’s design director has already announced that the aim of the vehicle is to bring out the best of Jaguar, albeit with a modern twist.

The flagship XJ model will be all electric, but it’s expected that there’ll be other engine types too. The vehicle is being built on the MLA platform, which provides options for PHEV vehicles (Plug-in Hybrid), mild-hybrid, and electric vehicles. While it’s only the electric version that has been announced, it’s highly likely that there’ll be models that have powerful engines with electrical assistance.

There is rightly a lot of interest in electric vehicles these days, most significantly because they are going to be the future of the automotive industry. With Jaguar’s stellar reputation for producing outstanding vehicles, there’s little surprise that all eyes are on the XJ, which could signal the beginning of the future for the car company. This vehicle will be built at Jaguar’s Castle Bromwich plant; while it’ll be the first electric vehicle to be built there, it won’t be the last.
