Drive to the Coast - The Best "Winter" Beaches in South Wales

With the cold winter months coming into force, it can be difficult to find the best places to take the family. We’ve found the best beaches in South Wales for you to visit this winter, and make the most of the South Wales coast.

Rhossili Bay – Dog Friendly

Based off the Gower Coast Path, Rhossili Bay is a beautiful beach to visit throughout the year. Voted Wales’ Best Beach 2017, enjoy this completely dog-friendly beach this winter by taking advantage of the multiple walking routes available from the Bay’s sandy shores.

Broad Haven Beach – Long, Narrow Beach

For a wintery beach visit a little further north of Wales, Broad Haven Beach in Bosherton is a lovely location to go. The long and narrow beach is brilliant for summer weather, and come winter, turns into a pebbled beach, ideal for winter walks to Little Haven, a few miles south.

Barafundle Bay – Isolated & Quiet

Another idyllic beach based in Pembrokeshire, Barafundle Bay is Wales’ version of a Caribbean beach, with an array of sand dunes and pine trees. This small beach has beautiful waters and is isolated from traffic, with a half a mile walk from the car park, so you can truly escape to the seaside!

Three Cliffs Bay – Historic, Natural Beauty

Based in Gower, the beaches at Three Cliffs Bay are filled with history, wildlife, and natural beauty all year round. The 300 million-year old carboniferous limestone cliffs allow you to embark on scenic walks and treks to discover the wondrous sandy beaches and rocky coves this winter.

Tresaith Beach – Popular & Lively Area

Situated in Cardigan Bay and named after the River Saith, Tresaith Beach is a popular spot all year round with a sheltered sandy bay protecting you from all winter weather, this is a perfect beach location to visit this season. Explore the waterfall that trickles down the rocks and adventure down the nearby Ceredigion Coast Path, to finish off with a pint down The Shop Inn Pub which overlooks beautiful Welsh coast.

Cefn Sidan Beach – Best in Europe

Based in Pembrey, Carmarthenshire, Cefn Sidan Beach is a well-known Welsh beauty, described as one of the best beaches in Europe. The glorious golden sand stretches down 8 miles, and has a range of attractions for all, from crazy golf to dry skiing! For a crisp country walk, adjacent to the beach is Pembrey Country Park where you can explore the forest and get a break from the windy coastline.
