Eligibility for the Motability scheme means you can exchange your qualifying mobility allowance for a brand new car every three years. Discover everything you need to know about the scheme and the freedom, independence and other benefits it brings.

The Motability Scheme provides a complete motoring package. Not only can you exchange all or part of your mobility allowance for a brand-new car every three years but, apart from fuel, all of the associated costs are taken care of.

The Motability Scheme provides total peace of mind to eligible individuals, who can rely on having a safe, reliable, and well-maintained vehicle to meet their mobility needs.

The Motability Scheme provides comprehensive insurance coverage, which includes breakdown cover, loss or damage due to theft, and personal accident cover.

If your tyres wear out or are damaged, they will be replaced for free.

You don't have to make an upfront payment to get a vehicle through the Motability Scheme. Instead, the cost of the vehicle is paid for through your mobility allowance.

The scheme covers all servicing and maintenance costs, so you don't have to worry about unexpected repair bills.

The scheme covers the cost of road tax, so you don't have to worry about it.

The Motability Scheme offers a wide range of vehicles from different manufacturers, including small cars, family cars, and even some luxury vehicles.

You can have your car adapted or modified to suit your specific mobility needs at no extra cost.

We’ll arrange and cover the cost of a home chargepoint and a standard installation, or give you access to the bp pulse network of over 9,000 public chargepoints. Conditions apply.

To join the Motability Scheme, you must be in receipt of one of the following allowances:

  • Higher Rate Mobility Component of the Disability Living Allowance (DLA)
  • Enhanced Rate of the Mobility Component of Personal Independence Payment (PIP)
  • War Pensioners’ Mobility Supplement (WPMS)
  • Armed Forces Independence Payment (AFIP).

When you apply, you will also need to have at least 12 months remaining on your allowance.

Apart from fuel, everything you need to take delivery of a new car every three years is provided by the Scheme:

  • Servicing and maintenance
  • Full RAC breakdown assistance
  • Annual car tax
  • Windscreen and tyre replacement
  • A wide choice of adaptations, including many at no extra cost if installed when your lease commences
  • Insurance for you and up to two additional named drivers
  • 60,000 mileage allowance over the full lease term

When you apply, you will also need to have at least 12 months remaining on your allowance.

You simply exchange all or part of your Motability scheme allowance to lease your preferred vehicle over three years. At the end of the lease, if you want to remain on the Scheme, you just hand your car back, choose a brand new one and start again under a new lease arrangement.

If you don’t use all of your allowance, you will receive the difference back to use as you wish.

You can also choose to lease a vehicle that costs more than your allowance by simply making an Advance Payment which varies by model.
