What To Do In The Event Of An Accident

01792 896644 (Monday to Friday 8.00am – 5.30pm) or 01792 897755 (out of hours).

The following guidelines will help you in the event of an accident:

1. Stop

If you have an accident with another vehicle, a pedestrian, an animal (livestock), or another person’s property you must STOP at once.

2. If Anyone Is Injured

If someone is injured in the accident, you must call the emergency services and report the matter to the Police.

3. Exchange All Details

Important information that must be exchanged:

  • The names and addresses of all those involved (including those of any witnesses)
  • Insurance Company details (including policy numbers wherever possible)
  • Registration numbers of the vehicles involved in the incident

4. Record All The Facts

Record all the facts of the accident as soon as possible, regardless of how trivial they may seem at the time. Minor details may help prove your case. Make a rough sketch of the scene showing positions of the vehicles involved both prior to and after the incident. Include road signs and width, road markings, skid marks, obstructions and where exactly the accident happened. Make a note of the weather, road conditions and visibility. If you have a camera take photographs of the accident scene, any of the damage to the other vehicle and its occupants.

5. What To Do Next?

If your car is un-roadworthy contact us and we will arrange for collection of your vehicle. If your car is roadworthy bring it in to Sinclair Paint & Body Shop at your earliest convenience. An estimate will be provided and if you wish we will then obtain insurance authorisation on your behalf.

Don’t Forget

It is important to obtain the details of any other drivers or witnesses involved in an accident for insurance purposes and for reference if the police are involved. Also, remember to contact us as soon as possible.
